New resource: Love, Sex & Relationships: There is a critical need for abuse prevention education for teenagers. Previously the Safeguarding Team released a handbook for parents of younger children and then in 2018 the Team produced a handbook for older children and teens.

The new Teenagers Resource was launched at the 2018 Child Protection Breakfast. The inaugural workshop for parents and carers of older children and teens was held at Mater Christi on Thursday 6 September 2018.

Whilst the resource speaks directly to teenagers, the workshop speaks directly to parents to assist them with guiding their teens as they work through the various topics (we call them basket fillers) in the resource so that they can have accurate information and prevention skills.

The Safeguarding Project is a part of Archbishop Timothy Costello’s response to the Royal Commission Into Institutional Child Abuse. All Parishes now have Safeguarding Officers who maintain a presence in the Parish and are trained as a first point of contact for children and vulnerable adults who are experiencing abuse or have concerns along these lines. Officers are also responsible for overseeing Parish activities to keep our children safe.

If you know someone who is feeling unsafe or if you are experiencing that yourself, we encourage you to contact one of the Safeguarding Officers either at Mass (they are the ones wearing the blue vests) or on their mobiles (see the poster in the Church Foyer for individual details). Alternatively, email the Archdiocesan team via safeguarding@perthcatholic.org.au. If you are an adult, please bring this to the attention of the children in your care.
